What to Keep, Donate, or Toss During a Garage Cleanout

The hardest part of any garage cleanout is deciding what to do with everything. Most Silverdale homeowners hold onto things far longer than necessary — partly out of habit and partly because sorting feels overwhelming. This guide makes it simple.

What to Keep

Keep it only if you have used it in the past 12 months or have a specific upcoming use. If you cannot name when you last touched it, that is a signal it should go.

  • Tools you actively use for home maintenance
  • Seasonal equipment in working condition (lawn mower, snow blower)
  • Sports or outdoor gear used in the last year
  • Items with clear sentimental value you have space to store properly

What to Donate

In Kitsap County, Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity ReStores, and local church thrift stores accept a wide range of items. Good candidates for donation include working power tools, bicycles, furniture in decent condition, small appliances, and sporting goods.

What to Toss

Anything broken, water-damaged, mold-affected, or simply not worth donating should go. This includes old paint cans, rusted equipment, broken furniture, expired chemicals, and mystery boxes you have not opened in years.

What About Hazardous Items?

Liquid paint, gasoline, motor oil, and propane tanks need to go to a designated hazardous waste facility. Kitsap County Solid Waste has drop-off options — ask us when you book and we will give you the right location.

We Handle the Rest

Once you have pulled out what you are keeping, let us handle everything else. Our garage cleanout team in Silverdale loads it all, hauls it away, and sorts for donation and recycling where possible. Call (360) 928-5949 to book.
