How to Prepare for Safe Removal Day

Safe removal is one of the most specialised jobs in residential junk removal — the weight, anchoring, and location of a safe all affect how the job goes. A little preparation before our crew arrives makes the process faster and safer for everyone. Here is how to get ready for your safe removal in Silverdale.

Step 1: Empty the Safe Completely

This is the most important step. Remove all firearms, ammunition, documents, cash, jewellery, and any other contents before the crew arrives. A loaded safe cannot be safely moved — weight distribution changes unpredictably and movement can cause mechanical issues with the locking mechanism. Store removed contents securely before removal day.

Step 2: Locate the Anchor Bolts

If your safe is bolted to the floor or wall, locate the anchor points before we arrive. You do not need to remove them — that is our job — but knowing where they are helps us plan the extraction. If you have the original installation instructions showing bolt locations, have them available.

Step 3: Clear the Path

Walk from the safe to the nearest exterior door and remove all obstacles — rugs, furniture, decorative items, and anything that could create a tripping hazard while the crew is manoeuvring a heavy load. Our crew uses specialised dollies that need a clear path of at least 36 inches wide.

Step 4: Protect Your Floors

Heavy safes on dollies can dent hardwood and scratch tile. If you have flooring you want to protect, lay moving blankets or hardboard along the removal path before we arrive. We bring protective equipment as standard but additional coverage on vulnerable flooring is always wise for very heavy safes.

Step 5: Confirm the Combination or Key Access

If the safe door needs to be opened for any reason during removal — to verify it is empty or to access anchor bolts inside — have the combination or key ready. A locked, sealed safe that turns out to still have contents cannot be removed until emptied.
